5D lashes – Your questions answered

Since our launch in January 2018 of our Volume Fan lashes, we’ve been delighted to learn that our customers love our new range and they have been creating some amazing new looks with them.

Over the last few months, we’ve been answering questions about 5D lashes so we thought you’d find it useful to have a blog to refer to.  Here they are:

How are these different to Russian fans?

Traditionally, Russian fans are created by the technician during the treatment. It’s tricky to create beautiful fans and it needs a lot of skill to be able to do it quickly.  If you’re not adept at it, a proper set of volume lashes can take over 3 hours. Not many clients are happy laying on the couch for that amount of time.

Our premade Volume Fans take away the hard work and save you time.  The fans are specially made so there’s no ugly bulb of glue at the base holding them together.  They’ve got a super smooth base which means they attach beautifully to the natural lash and look practically undetectable to the onlooker.  They’re so light that clients say they can hardly feel them.

What clients are they suitable for?

The 5D lashes are perfect for a range of clients:

  • Those who have sparse natural lashes
  • Clients who have very fine, but abundant lashes
  • Clients who have medium weight or thick natural lashes, who want a full, voluminous look

When should I use 5D lashes instead of 3D lashes?

This is primarily going to depend on the look that you wish to achieve for your client and what their natural lashes can take.

If your client has sparse natural lashes, the 5D’s can help to create a more natural look without weighing the natural lash down.  As the 5D lashes only go up to a 0.10 in thickness, they are much lighter than many classic lashes, not only with the reduced weight, but also with less adhesive being used to attach them to the natural lash.

For clients who love the full, voluminous look, the 5D lashes are perfect for building and creating drama.

Can I mix lashes?

Absolutely! Mix them with 3D lashes and / or classic lashes – the looks that you can create are almost endless.

Every client’s eyes will be different in size and in shape, so it will be rare that you will use exactly the same lashes on two clients. When you consider the different face shapes and hairstyles of your clients, looks will need to be tweaked to suit them.  Ideally, you should have a range of lashes in different widths and lengths on your trolley so that you can blend them according to the needs of your client.

What are the 5D lashes available in?

The really great news is that we have recently extended the range to include even length lashes in the 0.07 and 0.10.  The following are available to buy:

Width Curl Length
0.05 B 7, 9, 11mm
0.05 C 7, 9, 11, 13mm
0.05 D 7, 9, 11mm
0.07 B 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13mm
0.07 C 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13mm
0.10 C 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13mm

Do I need to be specially trained?

If you are an experienced technician who regularly applies lashes then attending a workshop is optional.

If, however, you are less experienced or you don’t do many sets a week, you would benefit from attending a workshop as the application of the lashes does differ slightly from classic extensions.

More information about the workshops can be found by clicking this link.

Is there anything else that I need to know?

Using the correct tools to apply the lashes will make your life much quicker and easier.  Our new range of tweezers have been sourced with the Volume Fan lashes in mind.

We would recommend the Deep Curved Tweezers and the Angled ‘V’ Tweezers for using with Volume Fans, as the angle on the tips makes them perfect for picking up and placing fan lashes.

    Hi there
Really would like to try your fans as I’ve followed your blog for years I love the news letters .. so informative . But do you do a mixed length tray for fans?
As I’ve been left behind a bit doing only classics for 10 years plus now .. I’m just trying making my own fans I’ve had a course
Yet finding it really tricky .
So your fans look like the perfect alternative .
Yet I don’t really want to have to buy a tray of each length just now as I don’t know if I’ll get my clients back … really need a mixed length to start with

Sorry to ramble on : )
    Regards Tracy

      Hi Tracy,

Many thanks for your questions and you’re not rambling!

Certainly the premade fans do make life much easier and quicker for technicians like yourself.

At the moment, we are not stocking the multipacks, primarily as many people are using up a packet of lashes over a few treatments. It is something that we are constantly reviewing though.

If you would like a chat about the lashes, please feel free to call us on 01722 329829.

      I hope this helps.
