Well, I thought it appropriate to share this week about the trials and tribulations of creating a website in view of the fact that our new eyelash extension website has just gone live! I am delighted as it is so easy to get around and find everything. I have to tell you it’s taken years of developing and finding the right consultants and people who I could trust. Over the years I have done lots of websites with a number of providers. Some good and some not so good. The funny thing is, is how much the price can vary from one to another, and how much those naughty website people can pull the wool over your eyes!!!
I had quotes from £2000 to £20,000, I know it depends on what you have, but really, can it vary that much? Probably, all the website designer people out there are shouting…yes, yes, yes…..OK, I agree there are vast differences in what you could have, but if you have outlined what you want and the prices still vary that much – Be careful!!!
I have to share one story, that, as I look back it’s quite funny, but at the time, it certainly was not funny. A number of years ago I was introduced to WordPress and was told that this was the way to go and it would cost a fraction of the price of other types of websites. They guy said it was as easy as 1,2,3 and he could do it in a couple of days!!! Four months later, it was still not finished and I have to say, I was pulling my hair out despite the yoga practise!!! Worse still I stupidly paid for it before it was finished and ended up exploding, loosing the whole lot and I had to find another provider who, I have to say, promised the world, re-did the site, but this company did not deliver either. So yes, I paid yet again!!!
Well that was story number two. The team came to meet me and were very rude about the current website at the time, which was understandable and came up with an elaborate plan that was all about what was best for my business! Well, yes, it was pretty, but even after another huge investment, it was not right!!
So what am I saying here? Well, you need to find someone you can trust. WordPress is fantastic these days and very quick and reasonably priced to set up – if you have the right person. Don’t pay until it’s working to your satisfaction. I have a wonderful, trustworthy, straightforward chap who just ‘does it’ without any fuss and without the huge price tag. If anyone out there wants a recommendation, you only need ask!
So the moral of the story is – Always get a recommendation and chat to client’s who already have their website done by your proposed website designer!
Happy website designing!
